Today Metro Richmond Area Young Democrats (MRAYD) presented a resolution to Mayor Levar Stoney, commending him for his historic election as Richmond’s youngest mayor.
“We are so proud of our friend, Levar, who has established himself as a role model and source of inspiration for young people who aspire to political leadership and public service,” MRAYD President Alexsis Rodgers said. “Since day one, Mayor Stoney has fought for equality, public education, and environmental sustainability. His actions are a testament to the importance of local progressive leadership during the anti-equality, anti-science Trump administration. We know Mayor Stoney will continue to work towards a stronger city where everyone has a shot at success.”
“I’m grateful for the support of the Virginia Young Democrats and honored by this recognition,” Mayor Stoney said. “It is a new day in Richmond and a new day in our Commonwealth. Young, progressive, and politically-engaged Virginians will chart our future success. I urge them to keep fighting to strengthen our democracy and promote economic, educational, and socially-conscious opportunities for every Virginian.”
The resolution presented today was passed at the Virginia Young Democrats (VAYD) 2017 Convention in Harrisonburg on Saturday, March 18, 2017. Immediate Past President of VAYD Jamie Nolan and members of MRAYD’s 2017 convention delegation presented the resolution to Mayor Stoney on behalf of the statewide organization.
