Metro Richmond Area Young Democrats (MRAYD) today presented a resolution to Senator Tim Kaine, commending him for his service to our Commonwealth and the country.

“Senator Kaine made us incredibly proud campaigning across the nation and becoming known as ‘America’s Dad,’ and this resolution is an expression of our gratitude,” MRAYD President Alexsis Rodgers said. “According to exit polls, Secretary Clinton and Senator Kaine won young Virginia voters by 34 points, demonstrating young people’s endorsement of the values Democrats fight for every day. Now more than ever we need Senator Kaine’s bold advocacy for immigrants, women, young people and all Virginians.”

“I want to thank the Metro Richmond Area Young Democrats for this award and for their hard work in support of policies that will move our country forward,” Senator Kaine said. “I’ll keep fighting in the Senate to help Virginians get ahead and put a stop to President Trump’s policies that would harm our communities.”

The resolution presented today was passed at the Virginia Young Democrats (VAYD) 2017 Convention in Harrisonburg on Saturday, March 18, 2017. Immediate Past President of VAYD Jamie Nolan and members of MRAYD’s 2017 convention delegation presented the resolution to Senator Kaine on behalf of the statewide organization.

Virginia High School Voter Registration Week — April 23-29, 2017

We are proud that Governor McAuliffe values youth civic engagement and has declared April 23-29, 2017, as Virginia High School Student Voter Registration Week.

Any person who is 18 or older, or who will turn 18 before the next general election, is eligible to register to vote. Registering to vote online is easy at vote.virginia.gov.

Nearly 2,500 qualified 17-year-olds registered to vote during the 2016 Virginia High School Student Voter Registration Week, and 52,806 18-year-olds voted in the 2016 Presidential Election.

Virginia’s 2017 elections are critical, and we need young people’s voices to be heard.

Celebrate High School Voter Registration Week with us by texting or tweeting five friends to make sure they are registered to vote!

Hanover, Henrico & Petersburg Caucus Chair Elections — May 9, 2017

On Tuesday, May 9, Metro Richmond Area Young Democrats will elect locality chairs for Hanover, Henrico, and Petersburg to serve the remaining executive board term, ending in January 2018.

The Henrico Caucus Chair position recently became vacant, and per our constitution we must hold a caucus to elect a new chair at our next scheduled meeting. No chair was elected to represent Petersburg or Hanover at our organizational meeting in January 2017. Since then, we have organized events in those areas and would like to elect chairs for those localities.

Locality chairs serve as liaisons between MRAYD and the local Democratic Committee and campaigns of their area; provide information to members on how to join the local Democratic Committee in their area, and coordinate campaign activity and recruitment in their area. Locality chairs are also voting members of MRAYD’s executive board which meets monthly on first Tuesdays.

MRAYD members living in Henrico, Petersburg, or Hanover, will be able to participate in their respective caucus elections.

If you are interested in serving as a chair for your locality, please fill out this form by Sunday, May 7 at 11:59pm, and plan to attend our next meeting on Tuesday, May 9, 6-8pm, at On the ROX (119 N 18th St, Richmond, VA 23223). If you have additional questions, please contact Alexsis at metrorichmondyd@gmail.com.
